Derek Steward
Chief Credit Officer – Zions Bancorporation

Derek Steward is an executive vice president and chief credit officer of Zions Bancorporation. Since 2023, he has overseen the credit risk function, which includes key areas such as credit quality for all loan portfolio segments, the credit approval process and policy, portfolio stress testing, risk grading, allowance for credit loss, and credit analytics. Previous roles include management of commercial credit administration including C&I and CRE, and many specialty lending segments.

Prior to joining Zions in 2013, Steward served at Deloitte & Touche in the governance, risk and regulatory group assisting many commercial banks with navigating the great financial crisis. At Silicon Valley Bank, he managed risk, credit administration and compliance for the bank’s Central Division. He also worked on U.S. Bank’s corporate banking team in Seattle. He started his career with The Commerce Bank of Washington, which is now a division of Zions Bancorporation. Steward received his MBA from Seattle University and a BS from the University of Vermont.
